Community Data Partnership

The Community Data Partnership is project spearheaded by Philadelphia community organization We Embrace Fatherhood (wefphl.org) and generously supported Philadelphia DAO DATA Colab Initiative (data.philadao.com/colab.html).

The Partnership has two main goals -

1. Providing community access to data to inform discussions and change the narrative about crime statistics, their reliability and their impact on policy.

2. Providing statistics in a way that encourages community action and response to both negative and positive trends.

The Partnership test run initially focused on West and SW Philadelphia, but is now open to the entire city. If you would like information for your community contact WEF at [email protected]

Analysis of Violent, Property and Special Victims Crimes

This report provides a comprehensive overview of trends in violent, property, and special victims’ reported criminal incidents for City Council Districts. Violent criminal incidents includes offenses of homicide shootings, non-fatal shootings, and aggravated assaults. Property crime encompasses offenses of burglary and auto theft. Special victims’ crimes cover offenses of sexual assault, statutory rape, and a general category that encompasses other sex offenses. The report presents monthly counts and percentages of criminal incidents and arrests classified by age, race, and gender. Additionally, it includes a detailed breakdown of incidents, arrests, cases, and case outcomes for the three criminal incident categories mentioned above.

Geography Incident, Arrest, and Cases Opened

GeoIAC reports contain summary numbers on incidents reported, arrests made, and cases opened for various places around Philadelphia. To create these reports, we find all crime incidents reported to the Philadelphia Police that are located within a geographic boundary, such as a City Council District, or an arbitrary boundary, such as a Civic Association’s stated service area. We then match those incidents to arrests made against the incident’s DC number. Finally, we match those arrests to all cases opened on those arrests.

Outcomes Reports for each area include a one page summaries of the general outcomes of offenses that can be categorized as Violent, Property, Quality of Life, or Drug. Following this summary, each offense category is broken down into the component offenses as in other reports. These are meant to supplement the GeoIAC reports above.
